Central Pook on Northwick Road in Pilning is a modest, community-centered café that tends to draw in locals looking for a straightforward and hearty meal rather than a flashy dining experience. Its atmosphere leans toward casual and welcoming, with a small amount of outdoor seating that suits sunny days well—something appreciated in this semi-rural spot near Bristol.

People often come here for breakfast or a relaxed lunch, as the menu emphasizes comforting, familiar dishes like a full English breakfast, Sunday roast, and sandwiches such as the chicken, bacon, and avocado baguette. The food has a homemade, no-nonsense quality—bacon in the breakfast feels like proper bacon, not the cheaper stuff, giving the dishes a satisfying depth. The variety of toasty sandwiches and lighter bites also make it a convenient stop for a quick but filling meal.

Central Pook’s clientele seems to be a mix of locals out for morning coffee or a casual bite after a walk—several have mentioned stopping by after exploring nearby Aust Cliff or when other cafés in the surrounding villages are closed. Quick counter service means it’s easy to drop in without a long wait, and the staff come across as friendly and approachable, often engaging with customers rather than just serving them.

Visit late morning to early afternoon on a weekday if you want a quieter experience; sunny weekends can fill the outdoor bench spots but maintain a cozy pace. People who appreciate honest, well-prepared comfort food in a low-key setting will find Central Pook a reliable choice, especially if you’re in the area for a casual stop rather than a special occasion.

I have been passed Central Pook on several occasions but it has always been the wrong time to call in but I did today on 2nd April 2025 - order and pay at the counter and they bring the food and drinks out Quick service - sausage roll warmed up Some seating is outside which was great on a nice sunny day - definitely would suggest trying it and calling in - a little hidden away but that is fine

April 2025-4th visit. large ploughmans and falafel bagette. Both recommended. Jan 2025. 3rd visit. Still great. Huge baked potato and warm falafel bagette. Hidden Gem. After a walk along Aust Cliff, we were looking for somewhere close by for a late lunch. Both cafes in Severn Beach are closed on Mondays. But Central Pook popped up. Lovely young couple cooking and serving and friendly customers too. We had a brie and cranberry toastie and a Falafel, Avocado Hummus sandwich. Both came with coleslaw, salad and crisps. Excellent value and great combo for vegetarians.

I checked out Central Pook and wasn't disappointed. A hidden gem and well worth discovering. I had to give it 10/10. Quality of food and presentation. We had the Halloumi Stack and Central Breakfast. Looking forward to working my way through the menu as our food was first class. The Chef is a very amicable guy and overall what has been created at Central Pook is a very nice dining experience. Furthermore it's dog friendly and has plenty of parking; would definitely recommend.

Central Pook – Bristol’s Hidden Gem for Great Food If you’re in Bristol, Central Pook is a must-visit. On Fridays, their fish and chips are perfectly crispy and full of flavor. But the real star is their Sunday dinner, which is truly exceptional. I recently enjoyed their roast, featuring tender beef, crispy roast potatoes, honey-glazed carrots, creamy cauliflower cheese, and a fluffy Yorkshire pudding—all topped with rich, savory gravy (see the photo below!). They also cater to everyone, offering halal options and delicious vegan alternatives. With generous portions, beautiful presentation, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere, Central Pook delivers every time.
